My toilet is blocked. How what should i do?
Before you call a plumber to attend to your blocked toilet,
1 Pour a cup of bicarbonate of soda into the toilet and wait a few minutes.
2 Slowly pour two cups of vinegar into the toilet. Allow the mixture to settle for approximately 20 minutes and then flush the toilet to determine whether the blockage has been cleared.
3 If the blockage has not cleared yet, pour some dish washing liquid into the toilet, followed by warm water (not boiling water, as this could cause a crack in the toilet bowl). Wait for several minutes for the soap to loosen the blockage. Flush the toilet again.
4 If none of the above mentioned home remedies succeeded, the most effective way to clear the blockage is to contact a professional drain cleaning company who will determine the reason for the blockage as it may be caused by a solid obstruction, such as a toy, which could be further down the line.
It is not recommended to use a plunger in a toilet for several reasons. If there is a hard obstruction in the pipe, the use of a plunger will push it even further down into the line. Another reason is that forceful plunging can damage the wax ring seal of the toilet which can lead to sewerage flowing out from under the toilet.
It is also not recommended to use drain rods or a plumbers snake for the use of this equipment is often the culprit for damages to pipes and could transpire into additional repair expenses in the future.
